Increase Storage Space Significantly with Drive-In Racking

Drive-in racking is a high density type of storage racking system which utilises the FILO principle (first in, last out) to maximise the number of pallets that can fit into your space.

We provide an end to end service for drive-in storage systems including design, installation, SEMA racking inspections, repairs and ongoing maintenance.

What Is Drive-in Pallet Racking?

Drive-in pallet racking is a compact and specialist type of racking system that makes optimal use of available space by restricting access to pallets from a single aisle.

As the name suggests, drive-in pallet racking systems are designed for use with conventional forklift trucks, which can access goods in each channel as opposed to having an operating aisle.

They are ideal for operations where a single product with a long shelf life is being stocked in bulk such as cold storage, freezer or season goods applications.

Note that where larger pallet quantities are required, a shuttle racking system may be a better choice.

Benefits of Drive-In Racking Systems

Drive-in storage racking offers a wide range of benefits including:

  • Can double the amount of storage space available, with more density than any other storage system
  • Ideal for bulk storage of a single product, but multiple SKUs allow for as many types of products as there are lanes in the system
  • Each pallet is supported individually and so less prone to damage
  • Forklifts access goods through storage channels, eliminating the need for operating aisles
  • Drive-in systems are generally very robust and low maintenance

Are There Any Drawbacks?

Drive-in racking systems are extremely compact, using the FILO principle to maximise space. However, this also means that stock rotation can be very slow and pallet accessibility is reduced.

Another consideration that warehouse managers will need to take into account is that once a drive-in pallet racking system is installed, you may need to invest in new trucks that are compatible with the system.
